Our shuttles have been designed to meet the needs of weavers who can benefit from a high capacity boat shuttle. They are intended to be used with quills, rather than bobbins. Quills range in length from 6 3/4" up to a full 14". The quill rods are held in place by rare earth magnests which provide a firm hold, yet allow quills to be quickly and easily changed. Shuttles are individually handmade of birch and walnut, and are finished with a durable polyurethane finish. Each shuttle comes with six quills to get you started, and a template that can be used for making additional quills. I will also provide some suggestions on how to go about winding these really long quills.
Given their large size, these shuttles can accomodate significantly more yarn than most shuttles on the market. The 16.5" shuttle will hold more than 45 yards of a bulky rug yarn, such as that sold by Weaving Southwest. The 19.5" and 22" shuttles will accomodate more than 80 yards of rug yarn, and can handle cloth strips for rag rugs. With the large capacity, however, comes the need for a large shed. Before you purchase, please refer to the dimensions listed below to ensure that your loom can accomoodate the shuttle in which you are interested. Click on any thumbnail to see the relative sizes.
